Conceived surrounding their Blanket of Ash live practice sessions, Temporary Expedient is not your typical Jatun album. It’s a departure from their angular, studio-based approach of layering washed-out guitars and synth beats over signature ghost-like vocals. Instead, amorphous improvisation replaces calculated programming and multi-tracking. Each monthly piece captures sounds melding in the moment, relying solely on acoustics and incidentals. With the melodies stripped away, Jatun’s underlying elements of drone, field recording, frayed electronics and distorted dirge are displayed in a different light.
